Some application-specific notes, including notes on third-party licensed software. Several applications are available for local download.

Python: a free and very popular scripting language

can be installed on machines, on request, if it's not already present. We also have the Intel Fortran compiler installed on some machines. -

The University has a site licence for Labview. To obtain a licensed copy, contact P&A IT support.

Sometimes a licence will be associated with your machine by being tied to the machine's ‘MAC address’, and you may be asked to quote that in order for a licence to be generated for you.
Also (just because the issue irritates the hell out of Norman), can we collectively recall that the noun is ‘licence’ and the verb is ‘license’: you license a machine by obtaining a licence for it. It's just like ‘advise’/‘advice’ and ‘practise’/‘practice’. Grrrr.
